The board of directors of K1037 Radio will be holding a nomination and election day in May to fill two vacant positions, with the terms of the newly-elected members starting before the end of the month.

Nominations will take place in the K1037 offices on Thursday, May 15, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Anyone over the age of 18 who appears on the Kanien’kehá:ka Kahnawà:ke Registry is eligible to nominate a potential board member.

To be eligible to serve on the board - under the title “Community Representative” - one must be “a Mohawk of Kahnawake, 21 years of age, and have demonstrated interest in the well-being of the community of Kahnawake,” according to the board’s by-laws.

Current radio station employees and ex-employees or board members in “bad standing” are ineligible to run, according to those same by-laws.

One week after the nomination day, on May 22, elections will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the offices of the radio station.

Radio station board members are elected to serve, at minimum, a two-year term and, at maximum, a three-year term.

A full list of duties, responsibilities, and other details of the position are available on K1037’s website.
