Health Center AGM coming
For the first time since 2022, the Kanesatake Health Center (KHC) will hold its Annual General Assembly (AGA) next Wednesday.
There are four Board of Directors seats up for grabs at the session, where a vote will be held to choose between the registered candidates. These positions are currently held by vice-president Ellen Filippelli, secretary Gabrielle Lamouche, and interim member Gordon Oke, with one vacancy.
The fifth seat on the board is held by Samantha Pepin, whose term ends next year.
The assembly will also feature a report from executive director Teiawenhniseráhte Tomlinson and a presentation of audited financial statements from the past two fiscal years. Auditors for the current fiscal year will also be appointed.
The meeting will close with a question period.
According to Tomlinson, last year’s AGA was postponed because of two delays with the audit, one of which was caused by the execution of search warrants stemming from the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) investigation.
“This triggered further examination by the auditors, requiring more time,” he said.
The other delay was brought on by KHC’s investment of $1.5 million dollars in the Community Building, which is owned by the Mohawk Council of Kanesatake (MCK). The accounting requires an agreement or memorandum of understanding with Council that has not yet been reached, he said.
As a result of the delays, the 2022-2023 audit was not completed until early this year, said Tomlinson.

“To facilitate things and prevent holding two AGAs so close together, it was decided to await the 23-24 audit completion,” Tomlinson said.
All members of the KHC are invited to attend next week’s assembly. The meeting will take place on November 13 at 5 p.m. at the Community Building, located at 40 2nd Avenue Terrasse Raymond.
