Work continues on Old Chateauguay Road

The OCR Phase II project to finish replacing the water and sewer systems on the Old Chateauguay Road (OCR) is on schedule, with the underground infrastructure on the stretch by the OCR Gaz Bar set to be completed by early next week.
“Unfortunately, we’ll still have some prep work to do for the curb and the final grating. That is going to be another phase of the project, since now we’re going to be starting the work on Kirby Hill Road,” said Elizabeth Marcelin of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake (MCK)’s Capital Unit.
That being said, that part of the OCR should be reopening in the coming weeks, with gravel being placed on that stretch of roadway to allow for local traffic to pass through.
“It’s going to be gravel for the remainder of the project, until we do the curbs and the paving,” said Marcelin.
She said that a specialized product to keep dust levels down on the road will be applied to the gravel when it is ready to be opened for traffic, so that the neighbourhood does not become engulfed in gravel dust.
The work will now move on to Delisle Road, from the OCR towards Kirby Hill Road. That work is also set to begin in the coming weeks, Marcelin said.
The work being done on Delisle Road is to improve the drainage of the new system currently being installed: as it is downhill, it would be easier for the water to be drained, said Capital Unit director Brendan Montour in a previous interview with The Eastern Door.
Marcelin said that gravel will also be put in place there once the underground work is finished to allow local motorists to pass through.
The same is true for the portion being worked on at the opposite end of Kirby Hill Road, starting from the intersection with the cross. Underground work for that portion should also be finishing up in the coming weeks, with more updates from the MCK coming shortly according to Marcelin.
Work on the OCR Phase II project is set to continue full time until the fall.
