Schools seek donations for Xmas surprise
Santa’s set to come early this year for every local student, with the Kanesatake Education Center (KEC) once again collecting financial donations to make it happen.
“At the end of the day it’s the joy and excitement on their faces that matters the most!” said Amber Simon, one of two student life animators at KEC.
Gift cards worth $75 and a small gift are planned to be distributed to students of Ratihén:te High School and Rotiwennakéhte Ionterihwaienhstáhkhwa at a “Breakfast with Santa” event on December 19.
“Both schools will get together to enjoy a delicious meal in each other’s company, play games with friends, and, of course, meet Santa and receive a gift,” said Simon.
The school board has already received some donations from local businesses, Simon added.
“We are so grateful for all the generosity and support we receive,” she said.
Any excess funds received by the KEC for the initiative will be used for costs like field trips and lunches or rewards for students.
