Advance voting this weekend

Advance voting for the Mohawk Council of Kanesatake (MCK) elections takes place this weekend.
Those looking to cast their ballot early can go to one of two polls from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, July 26. The polls will be located at Ratihén:te High School and the United Church Hall.
Election day will be one week later on Saturday, August 2, at the same time and location, immediately after which all ballots will be counted.
The candidates for MCK grand chief are Victor Bonspille, Brant Etienne, and Serge Otsi Simon. Running for six Council seats as an MCK chief are 13 candidates: Amy Beauvais, Shirley Bonspille, Valerie Bonspille, Lynn Cataford Gabriel, Denise David, Derek Denis, Kahionhate Riley Denis, Cindy Gabriel, Mary Nicholas, Francis Phillips, Amanda Simon, Todd Simon, and Serge Otsi Simon.
Another important upcoming date is Thursday, July 31, when a public meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the community gym for the selection of an appeal board.
