Justice Centre ready to build
Mohawk Council of Kahnawake (MCK) commissioner of justice Kevin Fleischer has confirmed that the long-anticipated Community Justice Centre has received full funding and is moving steadily toward completion. The new facility is expected to break ground early next year.
“Things are moving very well with the establishment of the Community Justice Centre,” said Fleischer. “At this time, paving is expected to begin in the very near future. We expect delivery of the modular building at the end of February 2026, and we’ll be able to start moving court sessions and having other events there shortly thereafter.”
The funding for the centre was secured in collaboration with Kahnawake Shakotiia’takéhnhas Community Services (KSCS). Fleischer said that the paving could start as early as next week.
“It’s on its way, and it’s very exciting, and I think it’s a very positive development for Kahnawake,” Fleischer said.
The Community Justice Centre is designed as a versatile space that will support a range of justice-related services. It will feature a main room that will function as a courtroom when needed, along with dedicated areas for training and meetings.
The building will also include private offices where justice professionals can meet confidentially with clients. The facility will accommodate court hearings, administrative tribunal sessions, training sessions, and larger meetings, providing a secure and adaptable environment for the community’s justice needs.
The facility will also be available for community use. “On days where there’s no justice function being held at the Community Justice Centre, it can be used as a space, if needed, by other community organizations or other events,” Fleischer said.
Reflecting on the project’s significance, Fleischer said, “I’m looking forward to having space that could really foster the growth and development of our justice system, a justice system to very much be proud of.”
