From Tahiti to Costa Rica

Tahiti restaurant has once again fired up the fryer for Kahnawake, with the Chateauguay establishment doing its part to help fund the next big Kahnawake Youth Center (KYC) trip, this time to Costa Rica in 2026.
Gim Ming Wong announced the restaurant’s recent fundraisers have raised $5,165 for the trip as of last week; another egg roll fundraiser was held last night, July 10, after deadline.
“Our buffet fundraiser weeks ago, seeing so many young eager students volunteer, pouring water, cleaning, and setting up tables, seeing again so many familiar faces support, motivated me more to help raise more money to make the Costs Rica 2026 a reality,” said Wong.
“It’s important to help back the community of Kahnawake as they have supported Tahiti since I opened in 1990,” said Wong, adding that he never turns down a fundraiser to benefit Kahnawake.
“As a business you just cannot profit, not giving back to the community. It’s a win-win for both.”
He said when he was a student, he appreciated those who donated to his own school trip to see Parliament in Ottawa, and now he wants to pay it forward.
“I want the people of Kahnawake to know what a caring, supportive, and loving community you have,” he said, noting Kahnawake fundraisers routinely meet or beat targets.
Look out for the KYC at this week’s powwow, where they will be seeking donations from those in attendance for the Costa Rica trip.
