Melanie Morrison wishes more people had the chance to meet her little sister Tiffany.                 “She was a ball of energy. She impacted everyone that she knew. She just had that energy, you knew she was there,” Morrison said. “When she was taken, there was a black hole that was left. When her life was taken, there was a spark taken from our family.”

Public meeting sparks investigation

    Thursday was a day full of reflection for many in Kahnawake, as over 400 descended on the Sports Complex field to listen to acclaimed author Dr. Gabor Maté, known for his expertise on intergenerational trauma.   Maté opened with the story of a woman he met in Haïda Gwaïi, British Columbia, who approached him about the shame she felt in having lost her language.

    New technologist joins radiology unit 

    The X-ray department at the Kateri Memorial Hospital (KMHC) is now open five days  a week, thanks to the recent hire of a full-time medical imaging technologist.  The department that opened in the summer of 2023 has long struggled to maintain a consistent full-time service due to staffing struggles.

    Desjardins rewards community students 

    Four winners have been selected to receive scholarships from the Caisse Populaire Kahnawake.  Each year since 2010, students of all kinds, whether high school, CEGEP, vocational studies, university, and the Kanien’kéha Ratiwennahní:rats Adult Immersion Program, are encouraged to submit applications for the scholarships, the winners of which are selected by the bank’s board of directors.  "They basically look at not just academics, but also community involvement, volunteering, arts, sports, and activities,” said Mandie Montour, general manager of the Kahnawake branch of Desjardins.
