New board members for cultural centre

The Kanien'kehá:ka Onkwawén:na Raotitióhkwa Language and Cultural Center (KOR) has three new board members after elections held on November 5.

Anna Mae Rice, Karihwakátste Deer, and Greg Horn were elected for three-year terms.

According to KOR, their responsibilities will include participation in KOR events, as well as regular attendance in monthly and ad-hoc meetings along with being advocates for the teaching and survival of Kanien’kéha.

Seven candidates were on the ballot. Voting was held on Tuesday at KOR’s offices in the Kahnawake Office Complex between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. and was open to all residents.

Rice finished with 119 votes, Deer received 71 votes, and Horn received 54, with 179 ballots cast.

The four candidates who were not elected were Steven Horne (53 votes), Kawenniióhstha’ Jacobs (48 votes), Curran Jacobs (45 votes), and Brooke Rice (38 votes).
