A man was transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries after his motorcycle was struck by a vehicle last Thursday evening in a hit and run.

According to Surete du Quebec (SQ) spokesperson Marc Tessier on Wednesday afternoon, an investigation is ongoing.

“A collision reconstructionist and investigator attended the scene to analyze the scene and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident,” Tessier said.

Kanesatake Perimeter Security (KPS) also responded to the collision, which took place on Highway 344 near Mountain Road.

“When things like that happen, I wish people would really come forward and give information they may or may not have,” said KPS coordinator Kane Montour, adding that he believes it’s important for people to be held accountable.

“It’s never good whenever somebody gets hit. It could have been a lot worse. The guy could have been killed,” Montour said.

The incident is just the latest on a road on which many community members have reported feeling unsafe due to reckless drivers in recent years.

“I find on this highway, it’s becoming increasingly dangerous,” Montour said. “People speed, people make illegal passes, they cut people off. They’re in such a hurry to get to or leave from an establishment. There’s just no regard for human safety or no regard for rules of the road.”
