A 23-year-old resident of Chateauguay is facing five charges after being arrested by the Kahnawake Peacekeepers Saturday morning.
According to a press release, the Peacekeepers were alerted by the Surete du Quebec (SQ) at 2:36 a.m. Saturday to watch for a black Audi R8. The vehicle had fled from the SQ after having reached a speed of 217 KM/H and had last been seen on Highway 138 West.
A Peacekeeper leaving the station at the time of the call heard a vehicle travelling at high speeds in the area where the vehicle had last been seen. Following the sound, officers found the car parked in the rear parking lot of Robbie’s Smokehouse.
The suspect, upon seeing the Peacekeepers approaching to intercept him, tried to escape, hitting two police vehicles and a fence, which ultimately ended the chase.
Following his arrest, Peacekeepers found a crushed pill in a bag in the Audi. It was sent to a laboratory for tests.
According to the SQ, the driver had his license suspended for seven days, his vehicle was seized for 30 days, and he received multiple tickets for traffic violations.
The driver is also facing charges of possession, assault with intention to resist arrest, flight from a peace officer, dangerous operation of a conveyance, and mischief of over $5,000.
He was scheduled to appear in front of a judge on June 8 after having been held in custody.
