The boys’ hockey portion of the Chevrolet Cup in Chateauguay ended without any Kahnawa’kehró:non players making it to the medal rounds, but it was still a good experience for those who took part in the provincial tournament.

The first weekend of the annual Chevrolet Cup tournament saw high-level girls’ hockey on display in Quebec City, with Kahnawa’kehró:non a big part of the action.

Eleven players – six girls and five boys – will represent the community after making the official roster for Team Eastern Door and the North (EDN) ahead of the National Aboriginal Hockey Championships (NAHC).

It was a huge year for sports in Kahnawake, with championship wins and draft selections going along with medals, much effort, and lots of fun!

The CCM Challenge, a yearly tournament featuring some of the top U18 AAA teams in the province, was held in Chateauguay this year, and featured two Kahnawake players in prominent spots.

Local goalie Kingston Delisle will have a chance to impress Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) scouts during the QMJHL cup from December 10-14.

The air is getting crisper, which means hockey season is soon upon us. Along with the dozens of players who will suit up for the Kahnawake Minor Hockey Association (KMHA), some will be taking their talents to high-level hockey associations accross Turtle Island.

Kahnawa’kehró:non goalie Pryor Stacey will be heading down south next hockey season, as he signed on to go play for the Ohio-based Cleveland Barons U16 Elite development team in the Tier 1 Elite Hockey League (T1EHL), the top amateur league in the United States.

Before last weekend’s Manawan Minor Hockey Tournament, Kahnawa’kehró:non goaltender Pryor Stacey had played two tournaments with the U18 Waswanipi Firehawks, losing in the finals both times. 

Seven players from Kahnawake will be a part of Team Eastern Door and the North (EDN) in this May’s U18 National Aboriginal Hockey Championship in Kamloops, British Columbia.
