Local goalie Kingston Delisle will have a chance to impress Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) scouts during the QMJHL cup from December 10-14.

Delisle, who plays in Chateauguay for the U17 AAA Grenadiers, is one of four goaltenders who will be a part of the tournament in Chateauguay, which serves as a showcase for potential QMJHL draft picks.

“It feels amazing to be selected,” said Delisle.

“I am proud of my recognition. I have been working extremely hard for this opportunity.”

He said he was also excited to meet and catch up with the other players in the Cup, and he is looking forward to being their teammate for a week.

“My goal is to give my team a chance to win every game. I am a great teammate, and I bring leadership qualities to my team,” said Delisle.

His father, Iohahi:io Delisle, knows his son is capable of impressing on what will be one of the bigger stages of his young career.

“He’s a professional at his age. I guarantee you he’s going to perform, and he’s going to represent Kahnawake at the highest level that he’s capable of doing,” said Iohahi:io.

He said that Kingston has put in a lot of work into honing his skills since he was very young, and he has had the support of himself and the rest of his family the whole way.

He also acknowledged the Grenadiers program for having done a lot of good for Kingston, but also other Kahnawa’kehró:non who are in elite hockey.

To Iohahi:io, Kingston being named to the QMJHL Cup is an acknowledgement of the effort from everyone involved.

“Now, it’s about maintaining, once you receive that high declaration, you need to maintain it. And that’s when the real work comes in,” said Iohahi:io.

Since the event will be in Chateauguay, he highly encouraged community members to come and support his son.
