K-Town Expo returns

While doing the promotional tour for this weekend’s K-Town Collectables Expo at other shows and local games stores, there’s one thing Eric Ravenelle likes to hear more than anything else when giving out flyers: “I don’t need one, I’m already coming, I know about it, and it’s our favourite show to go to.”
Ravenelle, one of K-Town’s organizers along with Mike Brathwaite and Will Rice, said it means a lot to him that enthusiasts of all stripes are still enamored by the show almost nine years after the first edition.
“It definitely warms the heart and makes it all worthwhile. We started off at the Knights with maybe 35 vendors at the most. We’re at the Bingo with over 100 vendors now,” he said.
“For those that haven’t been, if they think it’s just for collectors, it’s not. It’s for the whole family, it’s for the whole community. There’s something for everyone.”
That includes retro toys and comics, but also video games, movie posters, horror movie props and memorabilia, sports memorabilia, wrestling memorabilia, Indigenous artists, and much more.
“Anyone that’s been to the expo before knows what to expect: an overwhelming sense of nostalgia and wonder,” said Ravenelle.
There will be lots of other things to do apart from patronizing the vendors. Many options for food will be on-site, including Rezican Tacos, Haunted Dogs, and Old Haunt BBQ.
Charity cosplay groups taking part include the 501st Legion Star Wars group, the Dr. Who Society of Canada, and - new for this year - characters from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Inter Species Wrestling will also be part of the show, with its latest show, Burger King of the Ring, starting on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
The three-round, eight-wrestler elimination tournament to crown the next Burger King of the Ring will be the main attraction of the show; other matches will also take place, although they have not been announced at time of writing.
“It’s things that most shows like that don’t have,” said Ravenelle of the extra attractions outside of the vendors.
Doors will open on Saturday and Sunday at 10 a.m. Entry will cost $5 for each day, with children aged 10 and younger getting in for free.

The expo will run a half-and-half for charity, with the draw done on Sunday. Although Ravenelle said they have not decided exactly where the money raised will go, they are exploring their options, including giving a portion to multiple charities like Tetewatatia’takehnhahs or food banks in the community.
With traffic issues plaguing the roads in Kahnawake last weekend, Ravenelle said they are keeping an eye on things, but they expect the bus lane to be clear for anyone coming from Montreal via the Angrignon bus terminal.
