Ice races heat up

There was no fear of it not being cold enough for racing to be back for another day on the ice last Saturday.
Quite the opposite, in fact, as temperatures plunged to -20 C, staying at or around that mark all day.
The frigid atmosphere did not make for a chilly reception to racing – far from it.
Dozens of racers and fans still braved the biting cold to watch all sorts of cars race around the track by the Kahnawake Marina – and, as opposed to the season’s inaugural race day, with blowing snow that hindered visibility on the track, it was a clear, sunny day, perfect for a race.
The winners on Saturday included Bryant-Montour Leblanc in his black #0 Honda Civic hatchback; Nicolas Martel and his #19 bright red Chevrolet Cavalier; Vincent Noel in his big #20 silver, grey, and purple-flamed stock car; and Richard Leblanc, following up his inaugural race day runner-up finish by winning on Saturday in his black #20 Chevrolet Caprice.
The weather forecast is looking good so far for another Saturday full of ice racing this coming weekend. Indeed, temperatures are slated to remain in the negatives today, Friday, and tomorrow, Saturday.
If that holds, the green flag will be waved at 11 a.m. tomorrow. Tickets are $10 (free for kids), and all are welcome to come watch.
