The Mohawk Council of Kahnawake announced this week that Onerahtókha Marquis will no longer be holding the role of executive director at the organization, having departed from the post as of December 15.

In a press release on January 5, the MCK said that Marquis “has transitioned out of her role,” thanking her for her service.

Marquis had served as executive director of the MCK since 2021, having previously worked for the organization in its Finance Unit and as a business development manager. As executive director, she was responsible for the daily operations of the organization and oversaw the strategic direction of MCK.

It had been previously announced that Marquis was on leave from the organization, which started on September 2, and that the Council table had appointed Dawn Marquis-Deere as interim director in her absence. Back then, the MCK said it was unable to provide further details as to why Marquis was on leave, nor could they say how long her absence would be for – the MCK has not released further details about the reason for Marquis’ permanent departure from her role.

Marquis-Deer typically serves as the Council’s executive administrative officer, and will continue to serve as interim executive director for the time being.
