A group known as the Pinesi Paddlers landed in Kahnawake ahead of the annual Echoes of a Proud Nation Pow-wow last week, after a six-day journey that started in Gatineau.

Kahnawake’s finest paddlers are continuing to flex their muscles internationally, this time in Bora Bora, where more than 20 paddlers and coaches have touched down to take part in the Talifit Bora Race.

Father and son duo Danny and Ahonwakerane Stacey were in Sarasota, Florida, last month for the International Canoe Federation’s 2024 Standup Paddling World Championships – something Danny was not even sure he would go to before booking his flight early in the fall.

Back in May, members of Kanesatake’s Longhouse listened as Mohawk Council of Kanesatake (MCK) grand chief Victor Bonspille and MCK chief Valerie Bonspille shared with them information about a group of paddlers that had scheduled a six-day trip, including a stop in Kanesatake.

The kids who signed up to paddle this summer at Onake also got a chance to develop their language skill, and the Ionkwawenní:io Kanien'kéha course will continue this fall.
