Kahnawake’s finest paddlers are continuing to flex their muscles internationally, this time in Bora Bora, where more than 20 paddlers and coaches have touched down to take part in the Talifit Bora Race.

“This adventure is about offering opportunities and investing in the youth,” Onake posted on their Facebook page, where they’ve been keeping the community updated on their adventures. “Each day brings more teachings on paddling, family support, and teamwork.”

Team Onake consists of five crews, with paddlers ranging in age between 12 and 19. The young athletes will be competing in multiple races, including single and team events, and will be taking on various distances, including two-KM, eight-KM, and 250M races.

The team will be in Bora Bora until Monday, with their first races starting yesterday, April 10, after The Eastern Door’s publishing deadline. The crew had landed in Bora Bora last weekend, giving them time to adjust to the new time zone and take in the sites and sounds of the island.

The group has been participating in team-building activities around the island and seeing what the locals have to offer, focusing on connection in everything they do.

“[It’s about] connection to the water, connection to family, and connection to the team,” Onake said on their page.

Stay tuned for more coverage and results in next week’s Eastern Door.
