As part of National Accessibility Week, nine people who work in the community took part in Connecting Horizons’ third annual Office Wheelchair Challenge, to experience a day as someone with reduced mobility and to see just how accessible their place of work is.

Dividends are up once more for Caisse Desjardins Kahnawake members, meaning more money in the accounts of its over 6,000 members.

When community member Emma Ouimet received a letter at the end of February from Desjardins stating that her investment’s tax forms may have been mailed to the wrong person, she was worried it could be a repeat of the large data breach that occurred between 2017-2019 as well as the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) fraud that had been widely reported last year.

It might have been March Break, but that didn’t stop community members from turning out in strong numbers to roll up their sleeves and help this week’s blood drive edge out its goal with a total of 79 donors.

The holiday parade returned to Kahnawake on Saturday, with Kahnawà:ke Shakotiia’takéhnhas Community Services (KSCS) taking the reins for the first time after the popular event didn’t move forward last year due to a lack of participation.

More community members will soon be able to access funds to help them build and buy housing in Kahnawake, thanks to an increase in the On-Reserve Loan Guarantee limit from $175,000 to $400,000.

Four winners have been selected to receive scholarships from the Caisse Populaire Kahnawake.  Each year since 2010, students of all kinds, whether high school, CEGEP, vocational studies, university, and the Kanien’kéha Ratiwennahní:rats Adult Immersion Program, are encouraged to submit applications for the scholarships, the winners of which are selected by the bank’s board of directors.  "They basically look at not just academics, but also community involvement, volunteering, arts, sports, and activities,” said Mandie Montour, general manager of the Kahnawake branch of Desjardins.

The 32nd annual Echoes of a Proud Nation Pow-Wow was once again a major success this weekend. This year’s powwow saw over 12,000 attendees descend upon Tekakwitha Island for the celebration of Kanien'kehá:ka culture.
