After almost a full year of fundraising, the Kateri Memorial Foundation (KMF)’s Golden Tickets winners have been drawn – 1,000 tickets were sold, with the fundraiser selling out once again.

A symposium will be hosted next week to raise awareness about bullying prevention, human trafficking, and domestic and financial abuse. It’ll run all day at the Golden Age Club on Wednesday, March 26, and is being organized by Ionkwatahónhsate Victim Services.

The Office of the Kahnawake Kanien’kehá:ka Registry (OKKR) has launched an education and outreach campaign with the goal of making sure the community is aware of the process regarding complaints regarding residency and eviction.

Kahnawake now has a residency compliance officer. That is, someone who’ll take on the role of filing eviction orders to the Court of the Kahnawake.  The community has already had an eviction law in place since last year, but up until now it’s been unenforceable.

Quebec Native Women (QNW) and the Native Women’s Shelter of Montreal (NWSM) are teaming up to create a new province-wide map that’ll compile the stories of those affected by the crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and two-spirit people.  A two-day long event will be hosted at the Golden Age Club in town next week to encourage families in Kahnawake to participate in particular.

The Kahnawake Governance project is continuing to move ahead in its next phase, as organizers seek to draft a document putting forth a collaboratively constructed plan to transition to traditional governance in the community.
