Kahnawa’kehró:non goaltender Pryor Stacey is working hard in high-level hockey to make his dream of going pro a reality.

It may have been a few months since the announcement of Allen “Arbour” Diabo joining the Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame, but it still left him feeling emotional at the induction ceremony in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, on November 9.

The town rink drew a huge crowd on Saturday for an all-day lacrosse celebration, where younger laxers had the opportunity to learn from Kahnawake Hunters players past and present.

Kahnawa’kehró:non Poppy Diabo is gearing up for nationals with her Onondaga Community College women’s soccer team after they defeated their opponent 4-0 last weekend.  Just before halftime, the freshman at the college in Syracuse, New York, assisted in her teammate Justine Borte scoring the team’s second goal.  “The day of our last game felt unreal,” said Diabo, who studies early childhood education at the college.

With the new season underway, the Kahnawake Minor Hockey Association (KHMA)’s new board of directors thinks the future is bright for hockey in the community.

Each Onake paddler thinks of something different while on the water. Some sing songs to keep them focused, others think about any anger they might be holding onto, using their rage to spur them on further.

Earlier this season, when the Kahnawake Hunters were on an eight-game losing streak, the team brainstormed words to describe themselves.
