It was the boys’ lacrosse teams’ turn to show what they had to offer this week at the Canada Games in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.

Team Quebec’s U17 boys have four players from Kahnawake taking part in the festivities: Tioháhes Morris, Rowehrenhatie Jacobs, Leland Lahache, and Jackson Norton.

Although Rome Delisle was also named to the team, he was unable to participate.

Team Quebec is 1-2 at time of writing, having defeated Team Nova Scotia 9-7, but losing to Team Alberta 9-1 and Team British Columbia 6-5.

They will have played their final round robin game of the tournament on Thursday evening against Team Ontario, after The Eastern Door’s publishing deadline.

The top four teams in each five-team pool will play in the quarterfinals today, Friday.

Team Quebec sits last in pool A, which they share with, in placement order, Team Ontario (3-0), Team British Columbia (2-2), Team Alberta (1-2), and Team Nova Scotia (1-2).

At time of writing, Morris has one goal and three assists, Jacobs has two goals and two assists, and Norton has three goals and three assists.

Lahache has served as the backup goaltender to Olivier Wade and has not yet appeared in a game at time of writing.

The first period against Nova Scotia was a full display of offense for both teams, as Quebec scored seven times, while Nova Scotia had five.

After that, neither team scored until there was less than 10 minutes left in the third, scoring twice apiece, not enough to take away the lead from Quebec.

Against Team British Columbia, they mounted a comeback effort that came up just short, not allowing any more goals after midway through the second, but never finding the back of the net for a third time in the third period.

Team Quebec’s U17 girls’ lacrosse team, which had Ryan Stacey on the team, played two more games at the tail end of last week.

In the consolation game on August 14, they defeated Team New Brunswick 4-1 for their first win of the Games. Stacey scored Team Quebec’s first goal of the game at 2:40 of the first period to give them the early lead.

They then played against Team Manitoba to determine who would finish fifth and sixth in the final standings. Neither team scored until midway through the second period when Manitoba took the lead. They would never let go of that lead, ultimately winning 3-1 and giving Team Quebec a sixth-place finish.
