Diabo drafted to Major Series Lacrosse

Kaymen Diabo will be continuing his path in high-level lacrosse at the senior level, having been selected in the fourth round, 24th overall by Major Series Lacrosse (MSL)’s Cobourg Kodiaks.

“He’s where he needs to be. This is where he wants to play. We’re excited about it,” said Kirby Joe Diabo, Kaymen’s father, who also served as assistant general manager of the Kahnawake Junior B Hunters last season.

The goal, Kirby Joe said, was ultimately for Kaymen to get another chance in the National Lacrosse League after having been released from his contract by the Colorado Mammoth, the team that drafted him in the fifth round last fall.

For Kirby Joe, the MSL is where he can do that.

“It’s all professional players. This is pretty much the offseason for the NLL. They want to play summer ball somewhere, whether it’s the PLL (Premier Lacrosse League) or Major Series Lacrosse,” said Kirby Joe.

“It’s a good opportunity, and I think it’s a good fit for him.”

The fit is good because of Kaymen’s familiarity with some of the coaching staff, he said. That includes the head coach, Joe Sullivan, who called Kaymen after he was drafted by Cobourg.

“He’s been all over the place. We know him well,” said Kirby Joe.

Also on staff is assistant coach Jason Tassey, a good friend of Kirby Joe’s.

“He is a guy from Ottawa, which we played against our whole lives and coached against,” said Kirby Joe.

“He’s a good guy, and I really love his system.”

Cobourg selected seven other players in the 2026 MSL draft, including twice at the very beginning of the first round. They held the first overall pick, which they used to select Willem Firth, the Ontario Junior Lacrosse (OJLL) League’s third-highest point producer, from the Toronto Beaches.

At third overall, they selected Aaron Toguri, the OJLL’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player of the year, from the Orangeville Northmen.

One of Firth’s teammates in Toronto, defender Owen Tasse, was selected in the second round, 13th overall.

Cobourg had three third-round picks, which they used to select two OJLL athletes and another Junior B player: defender Nathan Fehr from the St. Catharines Athletics was drafted 15th, defender Will White from the Peterborough Jr A Lakers 18th, and fellow Kahnawake Hunter forward Connor Gorman 20th.

With their final pick of the draft, Cobourg selected another one of Firth’s Toronto teammates, defender Caden Hewitt, in the fifth round, 31st overall.

In his final season of Junior lacrosse, Kaymen led the Founder’s Cup-winning Hunters in scoring, posting 67 goals and 95 assists for 162 points in Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League games while adding six goals and 15 assists in five games at the Founder’s Cup.

With that infusion of talent, Kirby Joe said that Kaymen and the Kodiaks will be looking to improve and compete for an MSL title.

“Everybody wants a ring, so this is what we’re after,” he said.
