Getting a taste of championships

It’s hard to imagine a better start to the Canadian Ringuette Championships than this for Kanehsata’kehró:non goalie Tewehshon Nelson and her AA Junior Laurentides Regional Ringette Association team, as they are a perfect 5-0 in round robin play.
That perfect record will guarantee them a spot in the finals on April 5 in Ottawa. The time and opponent for the finals has yet to be determined.
Nelson typically plays Benjamin A, but she was invited to participate in Nationals by the AA Junior squad.
The U16 Laurentides team defeated Alberta 1 by a score of 6-5, Alberta 4 was beaten 8-5, they won against Saskatchewan 1 with a score of 3-1, Ontario 4 was beaten 5-2, and Nova Scotia 1 was defeated 8-2.
“It’s been an amazing experience so far,” said Jeffrey Nelson, Tewehshon’s dad.
Even more amazing? Tewehshon is playing in another championship that overlaps with the Canadian championship, with her St-Eustache home club.
She performed well there, saving 33 of 36 shots in a 3-3 tie on Tuesday night.
The next two games for St-Eustache will be today, Friday.
Check out The Pines Reporter next week for in-depth coverage of Tewehshon’s tournament experience!
