Another year of fun at Harvest Fest

It was another successful year at the Harvest Fall Fest last weekend, where more than 30 vendors gathered to share with the community the joy of the season.

“It was awesome, and we had the weather on our side,” said Bronwyn Johns, public relations officer at Kahnawake Tourism, who organized the event. “Whenever the weather is on our side, it’s just a game changer.”

Indoor and outdoor vendors sold crafts and food at the Golden Age Club, and visitors teamed up with the Iontkahthóhtha’ art fair, which has been taking place at the Legion, for their vendor’s day.

“It’s a really nice location to have it at and it was great to be able to support the art market too,” Johns said.

The event took place on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and guests were also treated to potato sack races and apple pie contests.

Four beautiful pies were entered for judging, and Sandra Schurman took home the prize for best pie, a sweet treat after a busy day of potato sack races for kids and adults alike.

As well as shopping and feasting, other cultural activities were a focus of the festival. Members of the 207 Longhouse came to the event and organized a social, encouraging attendees to dance.

“We even got those same guys to participate in the men’s category of potato sack races, which was a really nice little finisher,” Johns said. “It was a really good day, and all the vendors loved it.”

The day was a great opportunity for everybody to celebrate the harvest season, Johns said, both local and non-local. She even saw one youth, who is Innu, participate in a round dance for the first time ever.

“The highlight was just seeing everybody come together and have fun,” Johns said.
