The Royal Canadian Legion Mohawk Branch 219 have completed what it’s president Ray Deer is calling “phase two” of the Hometown Heroes banner project, with the last few of this remaining batch of 51 banners being installed along Old Malone Highway last Friday.

Last Thursday, May 8, was Victory in Europe Day, commemorating the day Nazi Germany formally surrendered in 1945, ending the Second World War in Europe.

While driving around town, it’s hard not to notice the Hometown Heroes banners, there to honour veterans from the community.

More Kahnawa’kehró:non have joined the growing list of those awarded the King Charles III’s Coronation Medal this week. This time around it was the community’s veterans that were honoured, at a ceremony held Wednesday morning at the Royal Canadian Legion Mohawk Branch 219.

In just about three hours, the Royal Canadian Legion Mohawk Branch 219 was furnished with a bright new look. DNE Resources, an energy consulting firm, took on the initiative to replace the lights throughout the legion’s building with LED bulbs donated by Arani Lighting.
