Saturday is the day Kahnawa’kehró:non lax fans have been waiting for all year: the start of the Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League playoffs - and with it, the start of the Hunters’ quest for a second straight league championship.

Going into the last weekend of the regular season, the Kahnawake Junior B Hunters can finish no lower than seventh in the Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League (OJBLL) East division standings, meaning they will get a chance to defend their league title and qualify for the Founders Cup.

After years of development, Saturday saw the new outdoor rink next to the Kahnawake Sports Complex have its first lacrosse action with two Kahnawake Mohawks Minor Lacrosse Association (KMMLA) all-star games that followed the official opening ceremony and ribbon cutting.

Although the Kahnawake Junior B Hunters are 3-2 at time of writing - they will have played against the Nepean Knights on Thursday night after The Eastern Door’s publishing deadline - the team has not been out of any games, with both losses decided by two or fewer goals.
