The air is getting crisper, which means hockey season is soon upon us. Along with the dozens of players who will suit up for the Kahnawake Minor Hockey Association (KMHA), some will be taking their talents to high-level hockey associations accross Turtle Island.

Kahnawa’kehró:non goalie Pryor Stacey will be heading down south next hockey season, as he signed on to go play for the Ohio-based Cleveland Barons U16 Elite development team in the Tier 1 Elite Hockey League (T1EHL), the top amateur league in the United States.

Kahnawake’s own Camden Jackson is one step closer to every minor hockey player’s dream of making it to the NHL, as the 16-year-old defender was drafted in the 2025 Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) draft by the Moncton Wildcats, the league’s defending champions, in the third round, 49th overall.

Before last weekend’s Manawan Minor Hockey Tournament, Kahnawa’kehró:non goaltender Pryor Stacey had played two tournaments with the U18 Waswanipi Firehawks, losing in the finals both times. 

The last of the Kahnawake Minor Hockey Association (KMHA) teams to still be in regionals contention, the U18B Mohawks, saw their second leg of the tournament get off to a good start over the weekend.
