Morris to Junior A

It’s been a good last few months for local laxer Tioháhes Morris.

Here, he is pictured in the centre during his acceptance of the Chuck Rowan award for high proficiency in box lacrosse combined with outstanding achievement in citizenship, together with high standards in academics.

His most recent accomplishment also signals a bright future in the sport. Morris was selected in last week’s Ontario Junior Lacrosse League (OJLL) entry draft, picked in the second round, 18th overall by the legendary Orangeville Northmen.

“It feels amazing. Every lacrosse kid wants to be a Junior A player one day. That’s the place to be,” said Morris.

The Northmen are coming off two straight years ending in losses in the Minto Cup championships, both times falling to the Coquitlam Adanacs. Orangeville last won the Minto Cup in 2022, its seventh time doing so.

“It’s been a team I’ve loved watching for the past two, three years. I always told myself I’d be there one day,” said Morris.

Orangeville also chose Preston Tomaszewski in the draft, taking him 15th overall from the Barrie Bombers organization. The Northmen did not have a first-round pick this year after trading it away at last year’s trade deadline.
