The Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League (OJCLL) end-of-season awards saw the entire coaching staff honoured, while three players were nominated for awards.
The Junior C Hunters went to the playoffs in the team’s inaugural year after a 6-10 regular season. The squad beat the Akwesasne Lightning in a play-in game to make the playoffs.
They were subsequently eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the North Shore Kodiaks, getting swept in their best-of-five series.
The coaching staff received the award for East Coaching Staff of the Year. On the staff were head coach Eric Jacobs, assistant coaches Ryan Cross, Tokwirihshon Goodleaf, and Pierre Tobjian, trainer Emily Chrenowski, and equipment manager Colin Rice.
Hunters forward Logan Gabriel was one of three finalists for East Rookie of the Year. In 20 games, playoffs included, Gabriel scored 18 goals and had 26 assists for 44 points. Among those 18 goals was a hat trick in the Hunters’ first win of the year, 11-7, against the Cornwall Celtics on May 21.
The award was won by Cooper Delorey of the Nepean Knights.
Forward Dash Diabo was nominated for East Most Sportsmanlike Player after a season in which he scored 20 goals and 20 assists in 20 games while only amassing six penalty minutes - and only two of them came during the regular season.
The award was won by Akwesasne’s Kakwiranoron Thompson.
Goaltender Bryce Montour was one of three finalists for the East Goalie of the Year award. In 18 starts, Montour was 6-11 with a 0.752 save percentage and a 10.24 goals against average.
