House league soccer registration open

If you’re a parent looking for a fun way for your children to spend some summer nights, Kahnawake Minor Soccer’s house league could be a good place to go.

Registration for the soccer league for ages four to eight will last until 60 players register to form four teams - extras will be added to a waiting list, said Paxton Phillips, who manages house league play.

“Parents should consider registering their child for house league soccer because it gives them a physically active and consistent activity to do throughout the summer,” said Phillips.

“Soccer also teaches them skills such as teamwork, listening to and following instructions, relationship building, and so on.”

Playing this level of soccer is a good onramp for younger soccer enthusiasts - or potential soccer enthusiasts - to get into the sport, she said.

“House league is a good foundation for minor soccer. It is the only program within the community available to ages six and under, while also making room for children ages six to eight to get a bit more experience before heading off to the competitive, travelling style of playing,” said Phillips.

A cool way the house league program has filled its coaching slots is with players from Arrowhead FC teams, the community’s senior women’s soccer teams, which have filled the coaching slots for each team, Phillips said.

“However, we are always open to more helping hands if people are interested,” Phillips added.

Registration for house league soccer costs $60, and the money must be paid in person at the Kahnawake Sports Complex.

Soccer is already a sport that doesn’t need much in terms of equipment, and much of it will already be included with league participation: shorts, socks, and a jersey.

The league will run from June to August, with the start date to be announced. Anyone with more questions can contact Phillips directly on Facebook.
