The Pan-American Lacrosse Association (PALA) held its third edition of the Sixes Cup, taking place last week in Humacao, Puerto Rico, the first international lacrosse tournament ever held in the US territory.

Both the men and women Haudenosaunee Nationals teams took home gold in the tournament that featured mainly Central and South American nations - neither the USA nor Canada had teams present.

The men’s team featured four players from Kahnawake: Trey Deere, Koleton Marquis, Dalton Kane, and Teharonhieorens McComber.

They were a perfect 5-0, with wins against Brazil (25-17), Chile (24-15), Peru (28-12), and Mexico (15-12) before taking down Puerto Rico 15-12 in the finals to win the first PALA Sixes Cup championship the men’s team has ever played in.

Deere was second in overall scoring, with 21 goals and 11 assists for 32 points in the five games.

Marquis had 23 points (18 goals and five assists), Kane had five (1-4), and McComber had 24 (19-5).

The women’s team, for their part, won their second straight PALA Sixes Cup by defeating hosts Puerto Rico 16-9. During pool play, they went 3-1, defeating Brazil 22-5, Argentina 16-10, and Mexico 18-3, and losing their first match with Puerto Rico 15-14.

No players from Kahnawake were on this year’s women’s team at PALA.
