Karahkwinetha Sage Goodleaf has always loved fashion and beauty, but that’s not what motivated her to run for this year’s Miss Indigenous Canada pageant - for her, it’s about running on a platform that sheds light on the environmental issues facing Kahnawake.

The past few months have been jam-packed for Kanehsata’kehró:non Julia Kanathiiostha Lazore – while juggling getting married in May and graduating from the Ratiwennenhá:wi Adult Immersion program in June, she’s spent every morsel of free time preparing for the Miss Indigenous Canada pageant, which took place in Six Nations of the Grand River last weekend.

Kanehsata’kehró:non Julia Kanathiiostha Lazore is officially in the running for this year’s Miss Indigenous Canada, the second edition of an annual pageant aimed at celebrating Indigenous women across Turtle Island.

The 32nd annual Echoes of a Proud Nation Pow-Wow was once again a major success this weekend. This year’s powwow saw over 12,000 attendees descend upon Tekakwitha Island for the celebration of Kanien'kehá:ka culture.
