(File Photo) The Kahnawake Education Center (KEC) has started to look at several different scenarios for the new school year in the fall, and although no decision has been made yet, there’s a ton of work going on behind the scenes.

(Marisela Amador, The Eastern Door)  This week, the Community Initiatives Fund (CIF) announced it had approved funding for two new gardening initiatives that were deemed essential by the Kahnawake COVID-19 Task Force.

Montreal activist and tour guide Donovan King continues to push to change a bylaw that makes it illegal to hire guides who don’t have a permit – and for more Indigenous representation – and his letter demanding these things was answered by the city this week.

Premier Francois Legault announced recently that schools will gradually re-open in Quebec, but Kahnawake has other plans. All schools will remain closed for the remainder of the school year, as stipulated by the Kahnawake COVID-19 Pandemic Task Force.

The COVID-19 pandemic forced governments all over the world to set out various safety measures to try to mitigate the impacts of the virus.

 (Marisela Amador, The Eastern Door) Kahnawake’s Medical Transportation just added new wheels to its fleet. The Kahnawake Fire Brigade (KFB), who has been running the transportation service since 1996, received five new vehicles last week to better serve the community.

 (Courtesy Alexander Perez) For Teiotsatonteh Diabo, the 2020 Greater Montreal Athletic Association Championships was her chance at redemption. After coming up short in the 2019 finals with silver, Diabo wrestled her way to a gold medal in the 125 KG weight class, signing off her last GMAAs with Kahnawake Survival School as champion.  “To come back this year and to win gold for my last year, it was an amazing feeling,” said Diabo.
