The U21 Junior Mohawks have a chance to qualify for playoff rounds of the Pierrefonds Annual Provincial Tournament – if they can win their next game, this Saturday against the St. Eustache Patriots 1.
The Junior team won their opening game of the tournament last weekend 3-2 against the Montreal North Braves.
Ioteseronties Marcus Diabo participated in all three of his team’s goals, scoring once and assisting on Ratetshenhawi Cross and Tahaniehtonhawi Mayo Nolan’s goals.
Their second game of the tournament Tuesday night did not go so well for the Mohawks, who lost 5-2 to the NDG Cougars.
NDG never trailed, scoring twice in the first and second periods. Tehorahkwaneken Albany and Shakonikonhrawis Diabo each scored their first goals of the tournament.
Cam White, a rookie goaltender, started both games for the Mohawks, registering a 3.5 goals-against average.
Their third and final game of the preliminary portion of the tournament will be at 3 p.m. on Pad 4 of the Pierrefonds Sportsplex.
Unfortunately, both U11 teams that competed in the third weekend of the Blackburn Stinger Classic were unable to make it to their respective semifinals.
The U11C Mohawks went 1-2 in their three games just outside of Ottawa. Their first game on Friday proved to be a tough one, as they lost 8-0 to the team that would eventually go on and win the whole tournament, the Aylmer Pionniers.
Later that afternoon, the U11C team bounced back with a 3-1 win against the Cumberland Dukes. Brayden Leborgne scored a hat trick for the Mohawks, and Greyson Taylor got the win in net.
The next day, the Mohawks had a chance to qualify for the semifinals with a win over the Akwesasne Wolves, also 1-1 at that point in the tournament. It was not meant to be, however, as the Wolves came out on top in a high-scoring game, winning 6-3.
Kahnawake trailed 4-3 after two periods, with Leborgne getting another hat trick for the team. Akwesasne would get the dagger shorthanded a little over four minutes into the third and added the sixth goal two minutes later.
