After days of reporting from hockey insiders, it’s now official: Akwesasne’s Carey Terrance is now a part of the New York Rangers’ organization.
The Anaheim Ducks traded the 20-year-old forward, along with a 2025 third-round pick, to the Rangers for Chris Kreider and a 2025 fourth-round pick.
Terrance had just signed his entry-level contract with the Ducks on April 9, two years after he was selected 59th overall. In his last season in the Ontario Hockey League, the captain of the Erie Otters had 20 goals and 19 assists in 45 games, before his season was cut short due to an injury sustained by falling into the boards on February 14.
He also scored two goals for Team USA at the latest World Juniors, winning gold.
Kreider, 34, has played 13 seasons with the Rangers since being drafted 19th overall in 2009, scoring 326 goals and 256 assists in 883 NHL games; he also has 76 points in 123 playoff games for the Rangers, including the most career playoff goals of any Rangers player with 48.
A noted goal scorer, Kreider is 10th in the league in goals since his debut in the 2012-2013 season.
The move by New York is widely seen as a financial one, as the Ducks will be taking on the entirety of his $6.5 million per season cap hit, with Kreider’s contract on the books until the end of the 2026-2027 season.
