Hunters win season opener

The Kahnawake Junior B Hunters are off to a good start, winning their first game of the Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League (OJBLL) season 13-10 against the Gloucester Griffins last Friday night.
After being outscored 5-4 in the first period, the Hunters held strong in their end in the second and third periods while continuing their scoring ways, outscoring Gloucester 4-1 in the second and 5-4 in the third.
Waukiigan Shognosh was credited with the win in goal for the Hunters, coming into the game in relief of Kasey Lahache four-and-a half minutes into the game. For his efforts, Shognosh was named Player of the Game for the Hunters.
Shakononhkwahtsheronniennis Rice had a hat-trick for the Hunters, with Owen Rice, Kaymen Diabo, Deeland Martin, and Tehaianerahkhwa Deer each having two.
Tehahente Albany’s seven points – six of those being assists – led the Hunters on the night.
Kahnawake’s second game of the season took place after The Eastern Door’s publishing deadline, on Thursday, May 1, on the road against the Nepean Knights. Following that will be two more road games, on May 3 against the Newmarket Saints and on May 4 against the West Durham Ironheads.
The home opener at the Sports Complex will be Saturday, May 10, at 7 p.m. against the Orillia Kings.
