Diabo drafted out west

Kaymen Diabo will have a choice to make in the coming days, after becoming the first Kahnawake Hunters player to be drafted by teams from both leagues that vie for the Mann Cup.

After having been drafted in the fourth round, 24th overall by Major Series Lacrosse (MSL)’s Cobourg Kodiaks, it was announced late last week that he had also been drafted by the Western Lacrosse Association (WLA)’s Langley Thunder in the fifth round, 33rd overall.

“There is a lot of talent, it’s really an exciting place to play in Langley,” said his father, Kirby Joe Diabo.

As both leagues compete for the same end-of-year trophy, he, naturally, can’t play for both teams, so he’ll have to pick one, his father said.

Both leagues have a lot of talent that would help Kaymen grow as a player, and both teams have staff that he and Kirby Joe know from their years in lacrosse, so it will come down to where he wants to be.

“We’re blessed; we’re more than grateful for these opportunities,” said Kirby Joe.

Both the MSL and WLA regular seasons begin in May.
