Representing the Onake Paddling Club, Konwanakeren Diabo did well competing in the first canoe Sprint Canadian National Team Trials at Montreal’s Olympic Basin.

On the first day of competition, May 2, Diabo missed out on the A final of the Open Women C-1 200m by 0.172 seconds, finishing fourth in a race where the top three qualified for that A final.

Finishing fourth still meant paddling in the C-1 200m B final, which Diabo won by more than two seconds over the second-place finisher.

The next day, Diabo qualified for the Open Women C-1 500m semifinals by placing fourth in the first race of the day. In the semifinals, she qualified for the A finals with a third-place finish with a time of 2:25.511, almost two seconds faster than the fourth-place finisher.

Diabo finished eighth in the 500m A finals.

At time of writing, the announcement of which athletes made the national team is scheduled for later this week.

The 2025 Canoe Sprint World Cup will be taking place May 16-18 in Szeged, Hungary.
