The Kahnawake Youth Center (KYC) held its yearly Kahnawake Sprint Triathlon last Thursday evening, with community members teaming up or going solo to take on the race.
“It was a beautiful day. I did talk to the racers after they were done, and they said they loved it. Don’t change anything about it. It was very self-motivating and challenging. They would like to try it again next year and see if they can do better,” said KYC’s community and family events coordinator Cheyanne McComber.
Four teams took part in the competitive race, which involved a 5KM run, a 20KM bike ride, and a 4KM canoe race.
The Wrastlers placed first, second came team I Don’t Knows, and third was team Something Cool.
The family race was a 3KM run, a 10KM bike ride, and a 2KM canoe.
The Zacharys placed first, second was Crossfit Girls, and third was Crossfit Fam.
Only two participants signed up for the individual triathlon, which was new for this year. Rotshennón:ni Two-Axe was the winner of the individual triathlon, with Lauren Deom finishing second.
The triathlon was originally scheduled to take place on July 14, but it was rescheduled to August 14 due to poor air quality caused by wildfire smoke.
