Billings face Beaconsfield in lax final today

And then there were two.

The six-time GMAA field lacrosse champion Howard S. Billings Blazers have a date this afternoon with Beaconsfield for the 2018 banner.

The Kahnawake Survival School Muskies field lacrosse team weathered a decent attack from a plucky Westwood High School team last Tuesday at home to win 11-9 and advance in the GMAA playoffs, but fell to Beaconsfield Monday 12-7.

Survival had a very short bench against Westwood with just three subs, and the winless team pushed the young team looking capable of pulling off the upset throughout.

“I had confidence in them to win the game, but we were missing a few key players,” said Surviva coach Eddy Dickson. 

The game was tied 9-9 in the fourth, and Dickson called a timeout to settle his young team down. 

“Just to get these guys on the right track,” said Dickson.

Two goals ensued and Survival’s defence held.

No. 2 Billings and no. 3 Kuper faced off in the other semi-final last Thursday, and dominated after an initial push from the Kodiaks to win 14-4.

For Survival, the season showed the school has some fine young talent that will only get better.

Starting from diminutive goalie Tehorahkwaneken Albany, who has been between the pipes for the past two KSS games – and done well, KSS has a large chunk of the team coming back next season.
